Artist's Statement I believe that everyone has a unique, creative way of experiencing and expressing the universe. Some people show it by raising children, growing a garden, or designing a building. As a visual artist, I use my creativity (and a little paint) to express my vision of the outer, physical world and my own inner, imaginary one. My style involves movement, color, and flow. People say it's impressionistic. I use watercolors, oils, or acrylics – and sometimes two or three mixed together – depending on my mood and the subject at hand. I am fascinated with structure, values, and composition in paintings. My best work tends to come when I'm dancing with my brushes and paint on paper or canvas, and everything just turns out right. Magic occurs, though it's hard to say how it happened. I have studied and practiced art all my life. I minored in Art in college and have never stopped seeking to learn more about the craft of painting. I have taken a variety of art classes and workshops and have been lucky enough to have had some wonderful teachers. As an artist, I hope I will never stop growing. I cannot imagine a life that did not involve artistic creation. I believe that artists need a community in order to thrive. I have been a member of several local artists groups and guilds and was President of the High Point Fine Art Guild for five years, from 2005 to 2010. I have exhibited in many art shows over the years, have won prizes in some, and have served as the chairman of several. You can see more of my work at: The Yew Tree Gallery, 604 S. Elm St, Greensboro, NC
